“We forget that the water cycle and the life cycle are one.”
~Jacques Yves Cousteau
Aquatic ecosystems (rivers, lakes, groundwater coastal waters, and oceans), support fish production, drinking water, and recreational opportunities. Local water is also connected to the hydrological cycle in our river basin, and provides water purification, water retention, and climate regulation. How well our water serves the environment is dependent on water quality, amount and flow, temperature, and the amount of nutrients found in the water. While water is renewable (it replenishes naturally,) the amount available depends living within the means of the amount that is replenished. Sustainability water use means water is available for future generations and isn’t depleted for any of the services it provides.
