Conifer Field Trip, Lassen Volcanic National Park

CNPS Conifers Fieldtrip

Lily Pond Trail, Lassen Volcanic National Park

Saturday, May 12

Join California Native Plant Society for this field trip to the Lily Pond Trail at Lassen Volcanic National Park to see 12 conifers on the drive up and in the Park.  Depending on the weather and blooming time we will take a side trip near Shingletown to see a 13th conifer, a grove of McNab Cypress with flowering ash, (Fraxinus dipetala), common chaparral shrubs and a variety of wildflowers.  This is a fairly easy fieldtrip of three miles of walking.  Walk leader David Ledger will give a list of the thirteen conifers with key identifying features such as cone, bark, needle and growth form (habit) to participants.  This is a good way to brush up on your conifers. No dogs on Park trails.  Meet at the Mt. Shasta Mall parking lot near Chase bank at 8 am for carpooling.  For more information call David Ledger at 355-8542 or dledger@sbcglobal.net.
