SUMMARY:RESCHEDULED: Phillips Brothers Mill Tour (paid event - advanced sign up required)
DESCRIPTION:NEW DATE (rescheduled from May 4th cancellation)\nPhillips Brothers Mill Tour\nSaturday\, May 25th at 8 am\nMeet at the Mt. Shasta Mall Parking lot\n$25 per person\n\n\n\nThis will be a field trip to the historic Phillips Brothers Mill\, a steam-powered sawmill and box factory operated off the grid that is on the National Register of Historic Places. The mill operated by the Hendrix Family was assembled from various steam mills in the area and has been a working mill since 1897. They even have a 1906 huge steam-operated tractor\, all located on 1000 acres of forested land that has a conservation easement on it and is only selectively cut. One of the family members will give us a tour of the mill\, the steam-operated boilers that power the plant. Even the family homestead is on solar power. Everything is off the grid including the well.\n\n\n\nThis will be a fascinating tour from the mill pond through the first cuts of the logs\, to the finished products\, either custom-cut wood or wooden boxes. With enough time we will stop on the way back to look at some trees infected with bark beetles that will soon be cut for lumber. Due to safety concerns\, the mill will not be operating during the tour.\n\n\n\nYou must sign up on our Meetup site (https://www.meetup.com/shasta…/events/300174252/) and sign a waiver unless you already have for 2024. Children must be over 12 years old\, and a parent must sign a waiver for them. This tour is limited to 24 people and costs $25 per person.\n\n\n\nFor more information contact david@ecoshasta.org. We will meet at the Mt. Shasta Mall near Chase Bank and carpool and caravan to the mill. Make sure you pre-register!
