Kum Bay Xerel Trail Field Trip

Kum Bay Xerel Trail Field Trip
Sacramento River, South Redding
Thursday, October 12, 2023, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

This field trip will be both a bird and plant identification walk on a fairly new trail south of Redding that in part follows the Sacramento River. George Horn, from Wintu Audubon, will identify birds on the walk and David Ledger will identify native plants. The trail is only a little over a mile out and back but we will also walk further upstream in a valley oak woodland on CDFW land until the plant growth begins to block out the trail.

The trail is level and the first part is easy for all persons, while the section on BLM land is flat but uneven. This walk is a part of SEA’s vision, which is to educate the public about our beautiful outdoor areas.

You can meet at the CVS parking lot on Placer and Ventura at 8:30 to carpool or meet us at the trailhead on the south end of Riverland Drive next to the geodesic dome. Please RSVP if you plan to meet at CVS at david@ecoshasta.org
